I am the Operative!

Wow! The last time I took a firefly personality quiz, I was Zoe. I sure have changed!!

You scored as The Operative.

You are dedicated to your job and very good at what you do. You've done some very bad things, but they had to be done. You don't expect to go to heaven, but that is a sacrifice you've made for a better future for all.

Nathan Fillion is officially my friend!

I read today on whedonesque.com that Nathan (aka Cap'n Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly/Serenity) now has an official myspace page. I immediately logged in and requested to add him as a friend, and I am very proud to say that Captain Tightpants himself is now my friend. w00t!!

We met Ron Glass (aka Shepherd Book)!

This past weekend, Erin and I made it out to the Dallas Comic Con (yes, I am now an official geek!) to meet Ron Glass, the actor who plays Shepherd Book in Firefly and Serenity. On Saturday, we had a chance to meet him, get his autograph, and take pictures with him. Sunday, we went back to "the con" to sit in on the Q&A session. (You can actually listen to the entire Ron Glass Q&A online, if interested. He was very funny and had some interesting answers to questions.)
Meeting Ron Glass

Another great part about the conference was seeing all the people - young and old - dressed up as scifi characters.

But I think my favorite photos from the set (besides those of Ron Glass) are the pictures of the kids that were dressed up by their geek-like-me parents! (Roy says I can never ever do this to our kids. Yeesh.)

I had a *really* great time!! Many thanks to Erin for being my guide for my first ever comic/scifi convention.

We get to meet Shepherd Book (Ron Glass)!

I cannot believe I've failed to mention this. A couple of weeks ago, the folks running the Dallas Comic Con announced that Ron Glass, the actor who plays Shepherd Book in Firefly/Serenity, will be attending the show on October 28th in Plano. My coworker Erin and I immediately bought our speed pass, and we're ready to wait all morning to meet the actor from my absolute favorite tv show.

I know, I know. My "geek factor" has gone through the roof. :P

No sequel to Serenity? Wrong, I say!!!

Fans like myself have kept up the faith that "the greatest show ever cancelled" will some day have a sequel for its movie spinoff. Sure Firefly only lasted (almost) one season (thanks to the dimbulbs at Fox), but the DVD boxed set was a huge success! Sure the movie didn't make as much money as we all would have liked, but the DVD release stayed at #1 for many, many, many more weeks than ever expected!

Recently, Joss posted a comment on the site whedonesque.com that caused an uproar amongst fans like myself. Some are saying that his comments completely squashed any hope of a Serenity 2. My response to all you naysayers: Nay!

Look closely...

Whedonesque Post: Additionally, a person called "Black Knight" bumps into him as he leaves Forbidden Planet. Apparently he's working on a sequel for something. Except not.

Joss's comment: Hi boys and odd, smooth, compellingly bumpy non-boys. [*snip*] I did run into someone at Forbidden Planet, and he said something about that I ought to make more things, possibly art things, and I agreed. [*snip*] There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there. I've seen Nathan and Tim (and Summer and Alan) recently because they're my friends because I'm so, yeah, awesome. So let's put that to bed and smother it with a pillow.

Kat's Analysis: If you look closely at Joss's words, you'll see that he says there's, not there will never be. He confirms that there's no current project ... but he does *not* confirm that there never will be a project. Get my drift? Plus, he's responding to the site's post that he's working on something, making it sound like it just might be Serenity 2.

So, to all the Browncoats out there, keep up the faith. Joss has not yet smacked us down completely.

Geek Like Me!

I am *so* proud of Vicki! Last Friday night (...into Saturday morning) she and I attended the midnight charity screening of Serenity at the Addison Studio Movie Grill. Once we were able to pull ourselves away from watching Mike, the absolute fastest bartender either one of us has seen ( ... and Vicki's seen quite a few!), we mingled with our fellow Browncoats and had ourselves a right nice shindig.

Corina was nice enough to loan us her Jayne Hat, and I wore it for a while, but Vicki wore it for the vast majority of the evening. She looked so cute!! Click on Vicki's picture and browse through the pictures.

Pretty cunning ... don't ya think?!

Pretty cunning, don't you think?

My pal Corina ... who is completely and totally in love with Jayne Cobb from "Firefly" ... was able to convince her Mom to make her her very own "Jayne Cap". Which I think is just one of the coolest things I've seen in quite some time. :P

Newest Browncoat Update

Hello all. I'm sorry for taking so long to post. Figure I'd better catch you guys up on what's been goin' on.

A couple of weekends ago, my pal Vicki finished her Firefly/Serenity quest by watching the last of disc 4 and watching the movie. Here's a picture of her holding her very own copy of Serenity. *sniff* I'm so proud!

The Newest Browncoat...

We Browncoats welcome Private Vicki C. into our ranks. Yes, Vicki and I held our very own Firefly marathon this past Saturday. Vicki had seen the movie; however, she had yet to experience the wonder of Firefly, the series.

I believe this brings my convert count to 15. I believe I'm doing pretty good. Ain't nothin' in the verse can stop me.

Go! Buy Serenity! NOW!

As probably all of you know (and why wouldn't you?) -- Serenity comes out *today*! Yes, the BDM (Big D*** Movie, as we Browncoats call it) is currently the #1 DVD top seller at Amazon.com. Mmm-hmm. Yep.

So, get your boots on out there and buy yourself a copy ... or three. Nothin' in the 'verse can stop ya!

"I'm a leaf on the wind -- watch me soar!"

Ok, guys. If you haven't watched Serenity yet, you must go see it! It's a great movie, and you'll be thanking me afterwards! If you're still not convinced, Joss Whedon recently posted a link to a site that has the first nine minutes of the show. Go ... see for yourself! It's great!!

"I aim to misbehave."

There was excitement! There was suspense! There was euphoria! A true emotional roller coaster. And that was before the movie even started!!

We arrived at the theater one hour before Serenity was to begin -- the line of people was stretched all the way around the lobby! So, we take our place at the end of the line, and quickly more people get in line behind us. Roy, Corina, and I were excited, but keeping our cool. Finally, the line starts to move forward, and we end up stopping just around 18 people from the entrance to the theater.

"The theater is full. We're waiting on some press to show up. If they don't show up, we will be able to let a few more of you in.

So, we wait some more, and they let a handful of people in. We wait again. Finally, one of the theater workers comes out, and she informs us that "this is just not going to happen". She offers to exchange our tickets for a free showing of some Gwenyth Paltrow movie next week. (?!?! -- Uh, no, but thanks.)

I just remember standing there, looking at this woman, she's looking right at me, and she just shrugs. Suddenly, "...nine, ten, eleven, and twelve. She points at Roy, who's behind us. "He is the last one. Let them in."

WOOHOO!!

So, we finally make it into the theater! We end up completely separated, but it was ok because the folks around us were really nice. The lights go out, and the crowd claps and cheers!!

The movie was great! I'm not going to tell you any details, I'm just going to say ...

GO WATCH IT!!!

You will love it. I promise you. And once you watch it, email me and let me know what you thought! And if you like it (which I know you will!!) ... tell a friend!!

SERENITY!!

So, I'm getting ready for work this morning, when Roy casually mentions that he read in the DMN Quick that there is a free screening of Serenity tonight. They were giving away tickets at the Movie Trading Company down on Greenville in Dallas.

Drat. Wish I'd heard about this yesterday, I think to myself.

So, I get to work, and I decide, What the heck! I'll call anyway on the off chance they still have tickets. I call, and ...

They have tickets!!!

The store opened at 10am, so my pal/co-worker Corina and I hope in my car and head out in search of these treasured tickets. (I must mention at this point that Corina is an excellent co-pilot. I had a map printed out illustrating how to get to our destination, but there was no need -- she knew a special way to get there, which worked perfectly.)

We arrive at the MTC at around 9:50am, and we wait in the (strangely) empty parking lot for the doors open. 10am rolls around, they open those doors, and we meekly approach the counter and admit that we are not there to purchase anything. We just want the free Serenity tickets.

At last!! We have the tickets! We calmly exit the building, and as we walk back to the car, I almost couldn't resist doing the Arsenio-Hall-cheer (whoomp! whoomp!). Much to Corina's delight, I'm sure, I was able to control myself.

So ... tonight ... at 7:30pm at the Loews movie theater at Spring Valley and 75 ... Roy, Corina, and I will be watching Serenity!!!!
