Banksy's identity revealed??

I love it!!! A true story about a famously anonymous street artist who creates artwork (or graffiti, depending on who you talk to) with a social msg. Hunted by police worldwide, Banksy has managed to keep his identity a secret... until now. Britain's The Mail has a (possible) scook on Banksy's true identity (...maybe). Here are some links for ya:

It's a conspiracy against Mexicans!

  • First it was tomatoes that had salmonella. Ok. Everyone eats tomatoes.
  • Then yesterday they announced they're investigating jalapenos b/c of strong suspicion that they have salmonella as well. Eyebrows were raised.
  • And this morning, they announce that now cilantro is suspected to have salmonella!
If tomorrow they announce that avocados have salmonella, it'll be official ....

It's a conspiracy against Mexicans!! (As a Mexican, myself, I'm terrified!) Well... and against Mexican restaurants and people in general living in southwestern states.

And interestingly, reports are finding that the highest number of outbreaks of salmonella are happening in Texas and New Mexico. ... YA THINK?!?!

(I kid you not. All of this has been reported this morning and yesterday on NPR!)

STTN: A Baby's Point of View

Found this on one of my 'mommy-msg-boards':

Sleeping through the night: A baby's point of view

OK, here's my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 7 months. The first couple months were great--I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened.

Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night).

At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I've talked to other babies, and it seems like it's pretty common after Mommies have had us for around for a few months.

Here's the thing: these Mommies don't really need to sleep. It's just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep--they just don't need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle.

It goes like this:

Night 1--cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it's for her own good.

Night 2--cry every 2 hours until you get fed.

Night 3--every hour.

Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights. Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don't give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!!

If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT'S HARD! But she really does not need the sleep, she is just resisting the change.

If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it. Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it.

BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with.
My sleep sack tickled my foot.
I felt a wrinkle under the sheet.
My mobile made a shadow on the wall.
I burped, and it tasted like pears (I hadn't eaten pears since lunch - what's up with that?)
The dog said 'woof' (I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day.) Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room.
Too hot, too cold, just right--doesn't matter! Keep crying!!

It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am.
You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies' internal clocks.

P.S. Don't let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, NO milk will come out! Trust me.

Dallas Arboretum

One of our weekly Get-Mommy-Out-Of-The-House activities is a trip to the Dallas Arboretum. While Janelle is still at the stage where she pretty much sleeps through the visit (although the last couple of visits I'll take her out of the stroller and she'll stare at the leaves and people walking by), I'm really enjoying it. (Thank you Joey for suggesting to Roy that I should get a membership!)

I've been taking a lot of pictures while we're there. Below are a few of my favorites. You can also view my collection on Flickr.

Our phone number has changed!

Greetings folks! Just a quick note to let you all know that since Roy and I now have cell phones, we've canceled our home phone. Email me if you don't have my cell phone number.

Death Of A Snowman

The recent frigid temperature reminded me that I had some pictures Roy wanted me to post. A couple of weeks ago, it snowed enough to make a few decent snowballs. Since I was sick that day and couldn't go out and play, on his way upstairs, Roy filled his thermos with enough snow to make a snowman or two.

Sadly, however, it was a little too warm in the house for our snowmen to survive. So Roy, being the sicko that he is, had me take periodic pictures of the melting of our two friends. Out of the 55 pictures we took (I kid you not), here are a few of the highlights.

The Perfect Man

One of my Valentine's gifts Roy gave me this year is called "The Perfect Man".

I got a kick out of the serving size.

A Valentine's Poem

(I know this is a day late...) My pal Nathan Fillion (he *must* be my pal -- he accepted me as one of his myspace friends :P) posted this yesterday. I liked the poem so much I had to share.

A Valentine's Poem

If I were a mountain, I'd be so grand and tall.
My glaciated head made up of rock and mineral.
My massive slopes would spiral down and plant me on the earth.
The trees and bugs would gaze at me, to marvel at my girth.

And if I were an ocean, a large pool of reeking brine-
All the fish and squid and zoplankton would be close friends of mine.
They'd swim by on a Sunday afternoon and say, "Hello."
But I'd see them all the time, for I'd be everywhere they go.

But if I was a flatworm, with a tail so slick and long.
I'd have correlated eye-spots as cerebral ganglion.
Would I while away the hours- eating microbes, dirt, and spores?
Or would my mean old flatworm grandma have me doing flatworm chores?

But I am not a mountain, or an ocean, or a worm.
Were you to glance at my ID, I'm sure it'd be confirmed.
And underneath "Corrective Lenses", in print so small and fine-
It's written by the DMV, that I'm your Valentine.

Do you see something wrong with this?

This past weekend, Roy was about to fill out the registration card that came with our new washer, and he noticed something strange about the "three easy ways" listed.

Online IQ Tests

I'm hesitant to post this b/c knowing the people I'm close to (my hubby and friends), they'll probably score better than I do. But here goes nothing ... what did you score? And what did you think of the "test"? (There were some strange questions in there.) And what do you think of online IQ testing? (It's interesting how your scores on different online tests can differ significantly.) And what are your views of IQ tests in general?

I ain't got no accent!!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Candid ladies room conversation caught live on CNN

This just cracks me up! CNN anchor Kyra Phillips visited the ladies room as President Bush gave his live press conference on the one year anniversary of the hurricane. The problem was that Ms. Phillips's mic was still on during this time. So, over the president's speech, you can clearly hear the (very candid) ladies room conversation about her husband, her brother, and her sister-in-law.

Hot Library Smut

Yeah, that title caught my attention as well. Fortunately, it is totally 'Rated G'. I found on digg.com a link to a site that has beautiful pictures of libraries from around the world. Wonderful scenery for library enthusiasts like myself. (Completely Safe For Work)

The perfect alcoholic beverage...

WARNING:  Reader must be 21 years or older to read the following post.  Post make contain graphic descriptions of alcoholic beverages.

I totally blame my cousin for this one.  I was at their house a few weekends ago, visiting them and their beautiful little darling, and for dinner Adrian whipped up some homemade sangria.  Fortunately, I did not leave without asking for the recipe, and this I share with you good people...

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle Beringer white zinfindel
  • 1 half-gallon carton of Strawberry Breeze (Dole or Welches, can't remember)
  • 2 sliced small red apples
  • 1 sliced small orange

Directions:

In a large pitcher, mix all these ingredients.  Chill.

Enjoy!  I am ... right now.  :P
