Candid ladies room conversation caught live on CNN

This just cracks me up! CNN anchor Kyra Phillips visited the ladies room as President Bush gave his live press conference on the one year anniversary of the hurricane. The problem was that Ms. Phillips's mic was still on during this time. So, over the president's speech, you can clearly hear the (very candid) ladies room conversation about her husband, her brother, and her sister-in-law.

OK Go

Last year, Fatima and Ryann told me about a band they really liked called OK Go. Well, I didn't really get around to listening to (and watching) more of their music (and videos) until last night when Roy stumbled upon one of OK Go's videos. Ok, so I like them. Below are a couple of their (very cool, extremely well choreographed) videos and a link to my myspace site where I my (current) favorite song of theirs. You can also listen to more music on OK Go's myspace site. Enjoy!

A Million Ways

Here It Goes Again

Update: The song was removed from myspace, so I've updated the link to the band's audio link. Enjoy! ~Kat (13 Sept 2006)

Dead Like Me

Alas. Yet another really great show that was cancelled too soon ... this time by the geniuses at Showtime after only two seasons. (Fortunately, you can still catch the two seasons on scifi.com or at your local video store.)

Dead Like Me: "Meet Georgia Lass (who prefers to be called George). She is a young Seattle college dropout who is unhappy with life. She is always at odds with her mom, Joy. One day coming back from her temp job as a filing clerk, she is hit by the toliet seat of the re-entering Space Station Mir. Finding out she is now dead, she is recruited to become a grim reaper. As in life, she is a pain in the butt in death. She does not like the details of her job, and is always at loggerheads with her boss Rube. Her fellow grim reapers don't really take much of a liking to her either. She also learns grim reapers don't even get a free ride in death, as they must hold down regular jobs along with their death duties. - Amazon.com

Life is Beautiful

Last night, they showed one of my favorite movies of all time -- "Life is Beautiful". I highly recommend this movie, if you haven't already seen it. Truly a beautiful story.

"Guido -- a charming but bumbling waiter who's gifted with a colorful imagination and an irresistible sense of humor -- has won the heart of the woman he loves and created a beautiful life for his young family. But then, that life is threatened by World War II ... and Guido must rely on those very same strengths to save his beloved wife and son from an unthinkable fate!" - Amazon.com

Honk if Pluto is still a planet

So Pluto has been voted out, it seems. I refuse to accept this! "My Very Earnest Mother Just Served Us Nachos" just doesn't do it for me! So, although I don't believe in putting bumper stickers on my car, I do believe in putting bumper stickers on my blog. So, behold!...

Hot Library Smut

Yeah, that title caught my attention as well. Fortunately, it is totally 'Rated G'. I found on digg.com a link to a site that has beautiful pictures of libraries from around the world. Wonderful scenery for library enthusiasts like myself. (Completely Safe For Work)

Blogger Beta Bugs

Recently, Blogger released a beta version of their software, and I jumped right on in. Apparently, when working with beta, you sometimes have bugs, which is what I ran into today. Anyway, the blog (as you can see) is back up and running. Thank you Matt for emailing me about it! ~Kat

Little Miss Sunshine

That God it's the weekend!  After an incredibly long weekend, Roy and I decided to go out for dinner and a movie last night.  Dinner was great, and the movie was *WONDERFUL*!

"The Hoover family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Along the way the family must deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks, and a broken-down VW bus, leading up to the surreal Little Miss Sunshine competition itself. On their travels through this bizarre landscape, the Hoovers learn to trust and support each other along the path of life, no matter what the challenge." (Lycos Movies)

Wonderful cast of characters.  The VW van.  The routine.  You'll love it!

Oh, and the music in the movie was really good ... and yet familiar.  I realized a bit into the movie that the author also had music in the movie Everything is Elluminated (which is also *very* good).  The musician is Devotchka, and you can listen to his music on his myspace site and on his website.

Heartless Bastards

No, I'm not actually calling anyone a heartless bastard ... there's actually a band from Cincinnati called "Heartless Bastards", and from what I've heard so far, I really like their music. Driving home from work today, I heard a review of their new album "All This Time" on NPR (*sigh*). For songs are available on their myspace website, and another song plays when you load their official website, so you get exposed to a bit of their music. I actually had a hard time deciding which song to add to my site, since they're all really good.

Update: I have a new song for the week folks, so I've updated the graphic link to the band's myspace site. Here you can find "All This Time" along with three other great songs. Enjoy! ~Kat (8-27-2006)

We Made It!

As you can probably tell by the sheer number of posts I've made this evening, I am at home ... not up at work, as I have been at this time for the past few days.  Yes, we did manage to finish our courses and get them posted and ready for tomorrow's first day of classes.  *Whew!*  Now, the three of us plan to paaaaaaarty!

The perfect alcoholic beverage...

WARNING:  Reader must be 21 years or older to read the following post.  Post make contain graphic descriptions of alcoholic beverages.

I totally blame my cousin for this one.  I was at their house a few weekends ago, visiting them and their beautiful little darling, and for dinner Adrian whipped up some homemade sangria.  Fortunately, I did not leave without asking for the recipe, and this I share with you good people...

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle Beringer white zinfindel
  • 1 half-gallon carton of Strawberry Breeze (Dole or Welches, can't remember)
  • 2 sliced small red apples
  • 1 sliced small orange

Directions:

In a large pitcher, mix all these ingredients.  Chill.

Enjoy!  I am ... right now.  :P

Cows with Guns

Ok, this has been on the web for quite some time, but it's still worth a mention.  If you have seen it ... or if you'd like to remind yourself of just how funny it is ... check out Cows with Guns.

We will fight for bovine freedom
And hold our large heads high
We will run free with the buffalo ... or die!
Cows with guns.

Windows Live Writer

Recently, I found on digg.com an article on Microsoft's new beta tool called Windows Live Writer, which is basically a very easy to use interface for creating blog posts.  It works with several of the popular blogsites, including Blogger and Live Journal.  I've been impressed by it ... so far.  Very simple interface.  Easier to add images and format text.  Just thought you might be interested.

(Guess you could call this a blog about blogging. :P )

Finally ... a clear picture

Roy and I have signed up for satellite tv.  (I keep calling it cable, but I actually mean satellite.)  Ever since we moved up to the Dallas area, we'd been relying on our antennae to tune into the local broadcast stations.  Up until this past May, I really didn't need tv as a distraction since I was working on my Master's ... but now I'm a free woman!  (Roy's not really much of a TV person, so he didn't miss it these past two years.)

All I can say is that it is so wonderful to have a perfectly clear picture, and not one that's all snowy.  It's hard to appreciate Jack Bauer or McDreamy when you're squinting through the haze.

Plus, now I can watch Monk without waiting for my parents to record six episodes and make me the tape.  And I can now discuss John Stewart and Colbert with pal Corina without having to rely on YouTube.

Two days after having it installed, I decided to go ahead and get the DVR (I had 15 days to decide without having a $50 installation fee tacked onto my bill), so now I (we) can record my (our) favorite shows!  Woohoo!

My apologies to "the masses"

("the masses" = my best friend Vicki, pal Frank, and the one or two others who might read my blog. :P )

The recent lack of brilliant blog postings and witty comments on other people's blogs is due to how hectic work has become recently.  Classes start on Thursday, so we're racing against the clock to get our online courses finished.

So, I promise to be back up and posting at the end of the week.  Wish me luck!  ~Kat

Robin Williams on NPR's "Fresh Air"

I completely admit it. I am an NPR junkie. And even more so now that I recently found out that I can subscribe to feeds for the many different shows I listen to on NPR. Anyway...

Yesterday, Fresh Air's Terry Gross interviewed Robin Williams, who is starring in the new movie "The Night Listener". Which really looks interesting. I tend to like the creepy Robin Williams movies he's been doing lately. Anyway, the interview is really great - Robin talks about his quiet childhood, his crazy college days when his developed his comedic skills, political views (which are very funny), and the new movie. Enjoy!
